The six photographic works presented at Render are inter-textual and referential in their meaning. In other words, it can be said, that what they signify is not “in the picture” per se. The signification, which is made sense of through cultural codes and viewer’s knowledge, lies and is evoked from the “outside” of the frame. The photographs point not to the scenes of their origins, but, through elaborate system of signification and metonymy, to signs and meanings of the art and photography world and history.

The meaning of a photograph shifts depending on a context in which it is presented. Render exhibition, by offering viewers an experience of “copying” artworks and bringing them home to be put in new contexts – their contexts, reflects and comments on the online culture of image re-contextualization. A zine also titled Render will be released at the opening. It contains new works by the artists as well as texts by Paul Paper, all made for this exhibition.
